The days of the week are part of the basic vocabulary taught in each language, as are the months of the year. However, it has never been explained to us either where the days of the week or the months of the year come from <\/strong> or why they are called that. This would help us understand some questions that come to our minds such as: Why is the weekend only two days long? Why are the last four months of the year so similar?<\/p>

Each language has its whys, although many of them share meaning. Languages that come from Latin and German, such as Spanish <\/b>, French <\/b>, English <\/b> and German name the days of the week according to the main gods, stars and planets <\/b> that represented their divinities. DIENSTAG<\/em> <\/strong> \u2192<\/em> Donar day <\/strong>, the god of tempest and war.<\/p>

MITTWOCH <\/strong> \u2192 <\/em> It is the middle of the week <\/strong> (MITT = Half, WOCHE = week).<\/p>

DONNERSTAG<\/em> <\/strong> \u2192 <\/em> Donner's Day, also called Thor <\/strong> by Anglo-Saxons and Scandinavians.<\/p>

FREITAG <\/strong> <\/em> \u2192 <\/em> This day is dedicated to the goddess Freyja. <\/strong><\/p>

SAMSTAG <\/strong> \u2192 <\/em> Derived from the Hebrew word Shabbat <\/strong>, which was the Jewish day of rest and the last day of the week. <\/strong><\/p>
