COUNTRIES THAT SPEAK ENGLISH

As I did with the post 'COUNTRIES THAT SPEAK SPANISH', here I am going to show you the countries that speak English, where you will find countries from everywhere, some like Kiribati or Swaziland, did you know them?

English-speaking countries are spread over America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. A total of 58 countries with English as their official language. if they were not enough, we must also add the non-sovereign entities of English speech that are 26 .

5 CONTINENTS, 58 COUNTRIES AND 26 NON-SOVEREIGN ENTITIES

AMERICA

In America there are 14 countries, with the United States being the country with the most English speakers in the world, with a total of some 230 million strong> of English speakers. The other 13 countries are:

  • Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago.

EUROPE

In Europe there are only 3 countries with English as the official language, which are the United Kingdom, Ireland and Malta, however, according to the English Proficiency Index, we find countries like:

  • Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Slovenia, Estonia, Luxembourg or Poland, where English is spoken as excellent second language.

AFRICA

We go to Africa, where we find a total of 22 countries, being Nigeria the country with the most English speakers in Africa, since more than 50% of inhabitants speak English. It is true that Nigeria is also the country with the most inhabitants in Africa with more than 200 million inhabitants. The other 21 English-speaking countries in Africaare:

  • Botswana, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, South Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

ASIA

If we look at Asia, we see that there are 5 countries with English as the official language, which are:

  • Philippines, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore. India stands out above all, being the second country with the most English speakers in the world, some 125 million. Although it only represents 12% of the total population of India. Pakistan, with a population much smaller than that of India, around 180 million, is the third country in the world with the most English speakers, representing almost 50% of the country's population, about 88 million.

OCEANIA

Oceania has 14 English-speaking countries, the largest is Australia with some 20 million inhabitants. Nauru, is the smallest with 12 thousand inhabitants. The other English-speaking countries in Oceania are:

  • Fiji, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Micronesia, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.

To finish, I leave you here the non-sovereign entities that have English as their official language:

America: Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos Islands and United States Virgin Islands.

Europe: Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey.

Africa: Santa Elena, Ascensión and Tristán de Acuña (includes Tristán de Acuña and Ascensión Island).

Asia: Hong Kong.

Oceania: American Samoa, Christmas Island, Cocos Islands, Cook Islands, Guam, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Tokelau.
